Originating in Hawaii, Poke bowls have gained popularity, mainly through social media because of their colour and Instagram-worthy aesthetics.
Poke Bowls are typically created using a base of rice or grains, usually sushi rice, which provides a sweet and sticky foundation. For a carb-free version, veggies and greens such as kale can be used instead.
Next up is the protein, for our vegan poke bowl, we used tofu, however, you can choose whichever protein you wish including fish and chicken, why not try marinating for extra flavour?
Now for the vegetables! Here you can get creative with colours and textures such as red cabbage, cucumber, peppers and avocado.
And finally, the sauce. We used a spicy, sesame tahini sauce for some umami flavour but sesame oil, siracha, sweet chilli and more can also be used to top your unique poke bowl.
The great thing about poke bowls is that they are completely customizable and can cater for a variety of dietary restrictions without being bland or boring.
