    Valentine's Day Starters

    Are you looking for elegant, yet simple starter ideas for your Valentine’s Day menu? We have rounded up a selection of our favourites.

    Terrines

    Based in Devon, Little & Cull source their ingredients as close as possible, making full use of the wonderful produce available in the West Country and UK. They believe provenance is key to the quality products they create. Wherever possible they source farm-assured British meat and free-range eggs to use in their dishes.

    Their terrines are pressed in to a contemporary shape and are easy to slice, garnish simply and serve. See the terrines here.

    Pate

    Founded in Wales by Margaret Carter, Patchwork started selling their home-made pâté in 1982. Today, the pâté is hand-made in small batches, with no artificial colours, additives or preservatives, to Margaret's original recipes. Supplied frozen, some of the pâtés are block shaped and ready to slice and others are in handy piping-bags.

    Our Development Chef, Mike, recommends a portion size of approximately 75g. The piping bags are superb for creating canapes, we love a Pidy case piped with pâté and decorated with micro-herbs. See the pâtés here.

    Tarts

    Little & Cull's Tartlets are wonderful as a starter or a light lunch. Quality products, locally sourced where possible, are central to Little & Cull’s philosophy. These tartlets have a beautifully creamy egg custard, made from free-range eggs.

    Red Onion & Gruyere Tartlets have roasted red onion with tangy gruyere in a free-range egg custard, with a light shortcrust pastry base.

    The vibrant red colour of the Beetroot & Feta Tartlets, means they are smashing for Valentine’s Day menus. The tarts have a free-range egg custard with bright beetroot and feta, in a light, crisp shortcrust pastry. See the tartlets here.

    Soup

    Love Soup use fresh ingredients and their carefully made stock to make hearty soups with a homemade flavour. Supplied frozen in two 2kg pouches, the soups help reduce any waste in the kitchen. From the Valentine red colour of the Tomato to the new Vegan flavours, there is a soup for every menu occasion. Our Development Chef, Mike, recommends a serving size of 250g.
