From culinary professionals to skilled horticulturists, Allan and Sue embarked on a career transition driven by the pursuit of a more dependable product.
In 2009, Allan and Sue delved into the world of Micro Cress cultivation. As seasoned chefs, their journey into a new profession was sparked by the quest for consistently flavoursome garnishes to elevate their culinary creations. They initiated the cultivation of Micro Herbs and Pea Shoots within the confines of a quaint greenhouse nestled in their backyard, supplying their own restaurant. Their culinary background provided invaluable insights into the discerning tastes of chefs.
Selecting Micro Herbs renowned for their robust flavours and aesthetic appeal became their mission. They included favourites like Coriander, Lemon Balm, Baby Mint, Mustard Frills, Fennel, Garlic Chives, Red Vein Sorrel, and Basil, which continue to be some of the most sought-after Microgreens to this day. The Micro Herbs selection has since expanded to encompass over 70 diverse varieties.
The co-founders of Nurtured in Norfolk recognized a gap in the culinary world for innovative garnishes that not only adorned dishes but also added depth and flavour to the palate. Their journey as a company has been marked by continuous growth and evolution. Today, 'Nurtured in Norfolk' proudly offers a diverse range of Edible Flowers, Micro Cress, Pea Shoots, Edible Leaves, Bunched Herbs, Baby and Sea Vegetables in a kaleidoscope of colours and flavours, totalling over 280 distinct products.
Drawing from their experience as former chefs, their fundamental philosophy revolves around ensuring that the quality and consistency of their products match the exacting standards they once demanded for their own culinary creations.
