We’re making steady progress through Autumn now, which means we’ve got a whole range of in-season produce ready to warm up your menus. Let’s explore the great flavours and uses for some of November’s stars including cabbage, sweet potatoes, pears and brussel sprouts.
Sweet potato
Switch up your menu and offer an alternative to traditional potatoes! Sweet potatoes are just as versatile as potatoes, you can roast them, bake them or fry them. Their bright orange colour can add an eye-catching appeal to your dishes.
Since it’s also vegan month this month, why not try out our Vegan Baked Stuffed Sweet Pototo recipe?
Cabbage
Cabbage doesn’t have to be boring. Cabbage can be used in a number of creative dishes and sides such as classic coleslaw or for more exotic options, sauerkraut or kimchi. Sauerkraut is a great way to improve hotdogs, and Kimchi can add a spicy kick to rice dishes. For a more traditional side dish, why not try our recipe for Braised Red Cabbage, the perfect accompaniment to a hearty roast dinner.
Pears
Add a sweet and juicy flavour to both your savoury, and sweet menu items this November with our in-season pears! Pears can be added to salads or even pizzas for an artisan twist! For the sweet-toothed, they can also be poached and cooked with wine and spices to create warming desserts.
Brussels Sprouts
Love them or hate them, Brussels sprouts are the classic seasonal accompaniment to warming dishes. Brussels-haters rejoice, in-season brussels boast a milder, less-bitter flavour and can be further improved by roasting then to bring out their sweet and nutty flavour. Get creative and add additions such as maple syrup, crispy bacon or cheese to create a surprisingly special side dish.
Our fresh and locally sourced Brussels sprouts are available now!
