We may all be feeling the bite of winter but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of fresh in-season produce to enjoy.
Number one on our list is the sweet and juicy apple! Apples make the perfect wintery snack, quirky addition to salads and can tap into the nostalgic food trend with the warming time-less classic, apple pie! Don’t be afraid to get creative and add other ingredients such as cinnamon, berries or even raisins and nuts.
Christmas may be over but that doesn’t mean the end for the winter sweetheart, the parsnip! Parsnips’ sweet and nutty flavour make them a fan favourite, but they can also be enhanced by roasting with honey or maple syrup. For a wintery side dish, why not try honey-glazed parsnip fries?
Admittedly not the prettiest vegetable, celeriac makes a great addition to hearty wintery stews or as a delicious, mashed side dish! The subtle celery flavour adds a refreshing but classic addition to your menus this winter and can provide a lighter alternative to mashed potatoes.
Last up in our January in-season line up is Swede! This nutritional root vegetable is versatile, easily adapted to fit into a range of innovative dishes such as swoodles, spiralised swede noodles, or classic comforts as mashed or roasted.
